SAFEGUARDING & CHILD PROTECTION

SAFEGUARDING

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is of paramount importance and is everyone’s responsibility.

It is the responsibility of every member of staff, volunteer and regular visitor to work in a way that will safeguard and promote the welfare of all of the pupils at this school. This includes the responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn

Ensuring that your child feels safe and secure at school is a key priority. All staff, both teaching and non-teaching, receive regular training to make sure they have an up-to-date knowledge of current safeguarding best practice in schools. This includes studying and learning from ‘serious case reviews’. Training is provided by Clennell Education Solutions and by our designated persons. Members of the Local Governing Committee and the Headteacher also receive regular ‘safer recruitment’ training to ensure the selection process to recruit new members of staff includes important safeguarding checks.

Throughout our curriculum we provide activities and opportunities for children to develop the skills they need to identify risks and stay safe.  This will also be extended to include material that will encourage our children to develop essential life skills.

To read our Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy, please see the Policies page linked below:

DESIGNATED SAFEGUARDING LEADS

All staff and Governors have read the most up to date ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ document published in annually by the Department for Education. We also encourage parents/carers to read the document which is linked above.

The Designated Safeguarding Leads at St. Paul’s are:

  • E Lomax (Headteacher)

  • R Cook (Deputy Headteacher)

  • P Chapman (SENDCo)

  • J Jorgensen (EYFS Lead)

  • B Kelly (Office Manager)

STAYING SAFE ONLINE

Online Learning

Staying safe online is very important within today’s ever-changing world. At St. Paul’s we take online safety very seriously and we continually reinforce staying safe on the internet within lessons and general use around the school. Online safety messages are shared through our newsletters for Parents and through emails to parents, as well as in Computing lessons and E-Safety assemblies.

OPERATION ENCOMPASS

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse. Designated Safeguarding Leads use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the children in our care. The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 identifies children who experience domestic abuse as victims of domestic abuse in their own right.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mrs E Lomax. Our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads are: Mr R Cook, Mr P Chapman, Miss J Jorgensen and Mrs B Kelly.
