PHYSICAL EDUCATION
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
INTENT:
The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
are physically active for sustained periods of time
engage in competitive sports and activities
lead healthy, active lives.
At St Paul’s we ensure that our PE lessons are progresssive from one year to the next: Children develop and begin master skills taught in previous years. We offer a wide range of sports, activities and experiences to children throughout school. Our aim is to inspire children to get into sport and ultimately lead healthy and active lives. We plan to further invest in opportunities to encourage fitness and well being.
Although the implications of COVID19 have limited our capacity to compete outside of school, we plan to provide plenty of opportunities for competitive sport in the future. In line with the national curriculum, our aim is to ensure that all children can swim 25m before they leave our school in year six.
IMPLEMENTATION:
We will continue to review and develop our PE curriculum to ensure we are providing the best opportunities for our children.
We will continue to work with Premier Stars, a local provider; mapping out our whole school PE provision; identifying and addressing any gaps in skills progression and ensuring what we are providing reflects the aims of the national curriculum.
School staff will continue to work alongside PE coaches, shadowing, observing and gaining insight and ideas about teaching PE and specific sports. This will be invaluable in upskilling staff, giving them confidence and inspiration for their own PE pedagogy.
IMPACT:
The children are given opportunities to try a variety of sports and sporting experiences.
The children experience high-quality PE lessons from an experienced and highly-commended provider.
Staff have many opportunities to observe and be a part of high-quality PE lessons, gaining insight into the teaching of sport-specific skills.
The children will have increased access to extracurricular activities such as after-school clubs, festivals and competitions.
